QUARTZ-224 Clarify docs to prevent potential Ora... Blocker Closed

Flags: Important

 Description  « Hide
The issue 224 states that Quartz might cause a DB-Lock on Oracle when the server is running in dedicated mode. Can this be clarified technically ? This would be a quite harsh requirement for running Quartz on Oracle as Oracle runs in dedicated mode by default.

This forum reply from James is of value here:

Sounds like QUARTZ-224 is an issue with a workaround that was not able to be confirmed. So it's been documented as a FAQ that might be of use.

Reading the header of http://svn.opensymphony.com/svn/quartz/trunk/docs/dbTables/tables_oracle.sql, it seems that the explanation here could be improved to state that 'one user found', however it's working fine in other situations.

One inconsistency is that Michael is saying that Oracle runs in dedicated mode by default and the note is saying that it is shared mode by default.

Regarding the inconsistency in dedicated vs. shared as default, I've done some reading and talked to my Oracle DBA friend. Turns out the default "depends" upon a number of things such as which specific Oracle version.... so it's going to be misleading to note anything as the default.

Added some wording to clarify that the need for "shared" mode was just a finding from one user and that in fact many users (including myself) use Quartz with dedicated mode just fine.
